Founder John Baker's innovative, pioneering approach to property has seen him accomplish a number of 'firsts' with his commercial real estate projects. After more than 50 years in the industry, that desire to innovate remains as strong as ever, with Baker blending his extensive experience and unparalleled contacts with a youthful vigour, as well as with vision, flair and drive.
Many of The John Baker Groups landmark projects have come in London, the city of his birth, including the development of 25 Hanover Square in London's West End, which was the first building to push through the £100 per square foot barrier, which at the time made it the world's most expensive office building. Another was rejuvenating the iconic Burlington Arcade in Mayfair, while he also redeveloped the Prada building on Bond Street, which included incorporating a new penthouse, and developing the first barristers' chambers outside the Inns of Court.
Fluent in four languages - English, French, Spanish and Italian - Baker has a strong insight into European property markets, and one of his most successful continental projects was developing 250,000 square feet of new commercial and residential projects in Brussels.
Balancing his vision and ambition with financial discipline, Baker is renowned in the industry for his exceptional, and often groundbreaking, projects in London, across the United Kingdom and also in Europe. Over the course of his career, he has delivered around 20 landmark real estate projects, and brought more than 1 million square feet of new commercial property to the market. Prior to establishing The John Baker Group, Baker ran a boutique West End property agency, Baker Lorenz, which was sold to Hercules PLC in 2001. In addition to buying and selling property, The John Baker Group also acts a consultancy.
